Retention Bonuses
Employees hired on or before August 16, 2021, and remain employed through December 22, 2021, will receive a $600 retention bonus. The hospital’s initial proposal was $250. Everyone who is qualified for the bonus will receive a check on December 22, 2021.
Union T-shirts
We have new Union T-shirts for union members. Please come by the Union office to pick up yours. Supplies are limited! Call before you come. 505-884-7713. We also still have Union blankets.
Union Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance
All Union members are automatically enrolled in a $4,000 American Income Life Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance policy. You should have received a letter in the mail with a form designating a beneficiary. Please return the form. Unfortunately, a few of our members have passed away and it has been difficult to get a hold of their family to advise them of this benefit.
I am being disciplined. What should I do?
Call the Union office to speak to a Union representative. Many times, we can either get the discipline reduced or dismissed.
Staffing
Travelers remain a topic of concern in the State, City and at UNMH. While travelers didn’t create the current situation Hospitals all over the country and in New Mexico have made the situation worse. If workers were satisfied with their working conditions, they wouldn’t leave their jobs. Some RN’s and other staff have told us that they are leaving because working conditions are not safe for them or their patients.
We are hearing that the Hospital Association may try to introduce legislation to restrict the amount of money the travel nurse agencies can charge hospitals for contract labor. At a recent news conference Presbyterian announced they have 500 travelers and UNMH has about the same number or more.
Below is a breakdown for traveler numbers at UNMH. Not all travelers are RN’s.

The amount UNMH has spent for travelers from 1/1/2021 through 10/31/2021 is $84,992,501 (RN contract labor) and $5,270,618 (med tech contract labor).

Labor Management

Bonificaciones de retención
Los empleados contratados en o antes del 16 de agosto, 2021 y estuvieron contratados hasta el 22 de diciembre, 2021, recibirán una bonificación de retención de $600. Seguro de vida por muerte y desmembramiento accidental
Todos los miembros sindicales están automáticamente inscritos en una póliza de Seguro de vida por muerte y desmembramiento accidental de American Income de $4,000. Usted debió haber recibido una carta en el correo con un formulario designando a un/a beneficiario. Por favor devuelva el formulario. Desafortunadamente, unos cuantos de nuestros miembros han fallecido y ha sido difícil conseguir a su familia para aconsejarlos de este beneficio.
Me están disciplinando. ¿Qué debo hacer?
Llame a la oficina sindical para hablar con un representante sindical. Muchas veces, podemos rebajar la disciplina o despedirla.
Dotación de personal
Los viajantes siguen siendo un tema en el estado, la ciudad y en UNMH. Mientras que los viajantes no crearon esta situación actual, los hospitales por todo el país y en Nuevo México han empeorado la situación. Si los trabajadores estuvieran satisfechos con sus condiciones laborales, no dejarían sus empleos. Algunos RNs y otro personal nos han dicho que se están yendo porque las condiciones laborales no son seguras para ellos o para sus pacientes.
Estamos escuchando que el Asociación Hospitalaria puede tratar de introducir legislación para restringir la cantidad de dinero que las agencias de enfermeros viajantes pueden cobrar a los hospitales por labor contratada. En una conferencia de noticias reciente, Presbyterian anunció que tienen 500 viajantes y en UNMH tiene el mismo número o más.
