We will be holding a Union meeting to discuss staffing issues and concerns on
September 20th at 2:30 pm via Zoom. Please call the Union office for the link.
Labor Management Update: Union representatives meet with Hospital management every month for the purpose of discussing and resolving emerging issues. Meetings occur on the 4th Monday of every month, 4PM to 5:30PM. Members can attend & observe as a visitor to the meeting.
SAFETY, Staffing & High-Capacity Alerts: Hospital management acknowledged there are some staffing challenges, but they feel confident they are staffing in a safe manner. We are continuing the conversation with the hospital on this important issue and need your daily input on staffing challenges you are facing.
Here are a few of the recently raised concerns that pose safety risks:
- Space is at a premium- hall beds crowd walkways, blocks egress
- Beds and stretchers in front of emergency fire equipment
- Beds in-front of stairwells & fire escape routes, offices, and near supply rooms
- Beds in hallways where nourishment stored & obtained for other patients
- Increased potential for body fluid exposure
- Lack of emergency- generator back up power supplies for hall beds
The Hospital has agreed to set up a meeting with its Life Safety to address these concerns. Do you have other safety concerns related to hall beds or your environment of care? Send them to the Union office.
Members can join Labor Management meetings as observers. Delegates & activists who have participated in the meeting preparation can participate. Contact the office right away if you are interested in participating in this meeting as an observer or if you have a statement you’d like to provide.

Insufficient Indoor & Outdoor seating for meals & breaks: We have requested additional seating 2nd floor behind OR - outdoors, with awning or other shade source - this issue remains pending.
Ultimate KRONOS: The New KRONOS system is described by the Hospital as a system that will eventually eliminate paper for time edits, time off requests, and eventually will tie into the scheduling systems. We have questioned why educational leave benefit of 40 hours per year (prorated to ones FTE) is not loaded into the system and, how will time off requests be managed if the system requires banked annual leave time before the request will be approved. Annual leave is also immediately debited from the workers account- This issue remains pending.

Actualización de gestión laboral: los representantes sindicales se reúnen con la administración del hospital cada mes para el propósito de discutir y resolver cuestiones emergentes. Alertas de SEGURIDAD, de dotación de personal y de alta capacidad: la administración del hospital reconoció que hay desafíos de la dotación de personal, pero se sienten confiados que están dotando el personal de una manera segura. Estamos continuando la conversación con el hospital sobre este importante asunto y necesitamos su participación diaria sobre los desafíos de dotación de personal que ustedes estén encarando.
Aquí están unas cuantas de las preocupaciones recientemente sacadas a la luz que representan riesgos de seguridad:
- El espacio es escaso – las camas llenan los pasillos, obstruyen la salida
- Camas y camillas enfrente del equipo de incendios de emergencia
- Camas enfrente de huecos de las escaleras y de rutas de escape de incendios,
- de oficinas y de cuartos de suministros cerca
- Camas en los pasillos donde se almacenan y se obtienen alimentos para otros pacientes
- Potencial en aumento para exposición de fluidos corporales
- Falta de respaldo de generador de emergencia para suministrar electricidad a las camas de pasillos
El hospital ha acordado en programar una reunión con su Life Safety para abordar estas preocupaciones. ¿Tiene usted otras preocupaciones de seguridad relacionadas a camas de pasillos o su medioambiente de atención? Envíelas a la oficina sindical.
Los miembros pueden ir a las reuniones de Gestión Laboral como observadores. Los delegados y activistas quienes han participado en la preparación de la reunión pueden participar. Contacte a la oficina inmediatamente si está interesado/a en participar en esta reunión como observador/a o si tiene una declaración que quisiera proveer.

Insuficientes sillas para comer y para descansos afuera y adentro: hemos solicitado sillas adicionales en el 2o piso detrás del OR – afuera, con toldo u otra fuente de sombra – esta cuestión sigue pendiente.
KRONOS final: el nuevo sistema KRONOS es descrito por el hospital como un sistema que finalmente eliminará el papel para ediciones de tiempo, solicitudes para tiempo fuera, y eventualmente se aunará a los sistemas de programación. Hemos cuestionado porqué el beneficio de 40 horas de permiso educativo por año (prorrateado al FTE de uno mismo) no está puesto en el sistema y cómo se manejarán las solicitudes para tiempo fuera si el sistema require tiempo de permiso anual en el banco antes de que se aprueben las solicitudes. El permiso anual también es inmediatamente reducido de la cuenta del trabajador/a. Esta cuestión sigue pendiente.
